Hello and Welcome!

Red House Books is going through a bit of a update!

I've always had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted this space to be but I've been detoured from my path by...lots and lost of other people's opinions and ways of doing things...

I'm committed to this little chunk of the interweb but I've also branched out into other places so! Now it's time to think of Red House Books as more of a hub of all things me! And Me is a hell of a lot of book love!

The need to search through and re-catalog ALL the books is so strong right now because I KNOW there are more books around the house that aren't accounted for...

The need is SO strong....

grumble grumble....It will have to be ok for now I guess ;)

Kingdom Hearts Manga Vol 1 by Shiro Amano
Love this game! Can't wait to see how it plays out as a Manga :)

The Goddess Inheritance by Aimee Carter
Snagged an autographed copy at B and N this summer - now I just need to finish the series.

Asylum by Madeleine Roux
Bought this one right up as soon as it hit my local indie's shelves. Not loving it as much as I hoped but I'm only a little way through it so far.

In The After by Demitria Lunetta
Total impulse buy - more post apocalyptic then dystopian I think - looks fabulous.


I feel like I'm SO out of the loop when it comes to new books these days.

OMG I'm back!

Can't say I really *went* anywhere except I wasn't *here* much. Just wasn't feeling it, you know?

But I'm missing it all :)

So I'm going to work blogging back into my schedule.

My normal, no drama, no frills, blogging because I love it schedule :)

I know I'm behind with all the latest releases sitting on my wishlist but these beauties managed to find their way into my home nonetheless

*Replica by Jenna Black
Sci-fi YA - can I get a woop woop! 
Haven't read Jenna's other YA series but I've heard good things about it.

*Gravity by Melissa West
A sci-fi blend? Dystopian maybe with a little paranormal? Not sure of all the elements in this one but  it's a 2012 debut from Entangled that's been on my wishlist a while.

*Crazy Dangerous by Andrew Klavan
Total impulse buy today. I started Klavan's Homelander's series and enjoyed it and honestly, I was really taken with the cover of this one. Probably more Christian Fiction then I'm used to writing but the combo of elements here is really intriguing.

*Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne
So many translations of this one out there and so many of them are horrible! I'm trusting Penguin Classics on this one!
Picked it up for my daughter who, although is too young to read is convinced she will still enjoy if it's read to her (but only until she's old enough to read it herself ;)

*Glimpse by Carol Lynch Williams
Contemporary drama book full of the feelings - in verse.
Totally an impulse buy. Not a huge fan of the contemp but can't seem to pass up an even slightly interesting story if it's written in verse.

Book Roundup (20) - BEA BOOKS!

I'm so glad I put together these lists before I started organizing my book collection :)

BEA was wonderful and exhausting and I have lots of quick and no frills posts about my experience ready for you guys this week.

BUT!

What I really love talking about are THE BOOKS!

I was good this year - at least I think I was. I really tried not to take books I knew weren't for me. Even so, a few made it home that after some consideration I decided I wasn't going to keep.

I cannot tell you how very relevant this picture book is to my life! I feel like I have electronics growing out of my head at times and with a little one at home I always worry I'm spending too much time 'plugged in'. Great book! Review to post soon!

LOVE this series! If you have a middle grader in your life I highly recommend these books. The way the paranormal elements combine with the way Robert and is friends work together to solve problems is perfect!

2013 Debut Author book. The subject matter of this one is a bit more heavy then I usually read but I wanted to push my comfort limits a little. 

2013 from Odyssey Books
Not a whole lot of info out there on this one but after Cindy contacted me and I read her synopsis I wanted to give it a try. Lots of magic and family secrets going on in this middle grade story. I'm looking forward to getting started!

April 2013 from William Marrow
This one is an adult contemporary and if you know me at all you know that I usually stay far away from this genre. However! The premise of this one really struck me - a foster kid ready to age out of the system meets an elderly former orphan-train rider. I'm hoping my instincts were wrong and I'm going to really enjoy this one :)

If you haven't read (or heard of) this Scholastic Middle Grade series you need to fix that right now! 
Written in the same style of the fabulous 39 Clues series, each book is written by a different author.
And guys? It's about TIME TRAVEL! Nuf' said ;)

It was pitched to me as a New Adult title - one of the first coming out from William Morrow. 
Vampires and romance...with more adult themes? Looking forward to trying it out!

An unofficial guide to the Hunger Games. I love Smart Pop's approach to series 'review' style books and the Hunger Games is a series I have a bit of a love / hate relationship with so this one should be interesting.

I got some excellent books these past couple of weeks!


Silly of me but I really hate that they changed the cover design and now book 3 doesn't in any way match my hardcovers of books 1 and 2. Started reading this one already and so far it's really good!

This is a monster of a book! (688 pages!) Smith really knows how to write terrifying stories - I love his Escape from Furnace series and The Fury looks to be a great start to another awesome supernatural series.

WHY? My daughter and I love reading together and this one looked very cute.

WHY? Picture books that teach something are always a plus with me.

by Brayan Lee O'Malley
WHY? I was introduced to the movie Soctt Pilgrim by my boyfriend - never knowing that it's awesomeness came from a series of graphic novel / mangas written by O'Malley. If you liked the movie, you'll love these books!

WHY? Um...zombies! Gotta say though - I was a fan of this cover when I first saw it but upclose the girl looks way too old to be the Alice in the story...and it's another girl in a dress which got old a long time ago...ok...why did I like this cover? Oh yeah - does't matter - zombies!

WHY? Already read (and reviewed) the ARC but I needed a pretty finished copy for my shelves. The dust jacket of this one is all soft and soothing...nothing like the book!

WHY? So it's the 3rd in a series of a series I haven't even started yet...but it's part of Riordan's Olympus series and I already have books 1 and 2 in hardcover and it looked so pretty in the store and - don't judge me!

WHY? I *might* already own a signed copy of this one but THIS one is a COLLECTOR'S EDITION! Short story, poster, faction tattoos - come on? How could I resist? (you're judging me again aren't you?)

WHY? If you want to be actually thrilled and terrified by a book - read this series.

WHY? Been wanting this one for a while now and I'm supper happy they didn't redesign the cover for the paperback because I loooooove it!

The 4th and FINAL Caster Chronicles! Ahhhhhh!!!!

Some pretty awesome authors in this one and I love me a good dystopian story.

I can't remember what this one is about but it's the first in Snicket's new series and I'll pretty much read anything he writes :)

I still can't get over how much I HATE this cover - I mean, it's Ethan...trying to look sexy...that just seems gross to me! Can't wait to get started on it though.

Not so Sunday Book Round Up

Friday was my birthday and I actually did something to celebrate this year. My family and I got back yesterday from a fabulous mini vacation to some local attractions (including a bookstore ;) and I'm settling into my end of summer run around like a crazy person season, known to others as 'August'.
