Hello and Welcome!

Red House Books is going through a bit of a update!

I've always had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted this space to be but I've been detoured from my path by...lots and lost of other people's opinions and ways of doing things...

I'm committed to this little chunk of the interweb but I've also branched out into other places so! Now it's time to think of Red House Books as more of a hub of all things me! And Me is a hell of a lot of book love!

Stay tuned!

Monthly Reads - May 2011

May was pretty amazing. With the start of Spring and BEA and visiting with my family in New York, I had a really great month. I didn't do so well in the reading department. I did however add 2 groupings to my totals. You'll probably see more children's book reviews on the blog because NetGalley + Picture Books + Daughter who loves books + iPad = very much awesomeness!
Need to get back into a regular reading program - like setting aside an hour every night just for reading (and no computer!). We'll see :)

Oh - and I'm so post dating this post back to June 1st...because I'm a little OCD and my Monthly Reads post needs to be the first one of every month :)

Monthly Reads - April 2011

April was pretty cool. Spring is finally here - although it did snow a couple of times. Pretty sure Mother Nature has gotten that out of her system!

Great month for books! Also, it was a wonderful NetGalley April! I can't believe so many people participated with me in reading NetGalley books this past month. I'll have a wrap up post soon and I'll be picking winners of the contest either this week or next.  Can't wait to see what you all read.

May will bring a lot of BEA planning and some house reorganization (think, more bookcases ;)

Monthly Reads - March 2011

This month was....different. It started with one of the worst storms we've had all winter (lost TONS of branches from our pine trees). Proceeded to rain for far too long. Gave us wonderful days full of 60 degree sunny goodness and now, it's ending with yet another snow storm. So large in fact, that I'm sitting here typing this with a large smile on my face because on April 1st I will be sitting at home enjoying (hopefully) my last no school / work snow day of the season! Gotta love working at a school!

As for books - which, let's face it - is WAY more exciting and important then the weather - I think I did pretty good. Still need to kick it into high gear if I'm going to hit 200 books this year but, it's still all good :)

Wanna see!!

OK!

One of those winters were I can't really imagine what everything looks like under all the snow. More came in the last few days. Oh, and ice - that was a pleasant surprise. Have you ever seen a newborn giraffe trying to stand for the first time? How their legs are all wobbly and they fall down a bunch? Yeah, that's me on ice. Any amount of ice will do. So yeah, winter is awesome for me!

You know what else is awesome? Books! (did you like that segue?)

Monthly Reads - December 2010

Hello New Year! Well, almost :)
I'm doing nothing tonight - except maybe playing a killer game of Killerbunnies with my guy. (What? You've never heard of Killerbunnies? You are missing out man!)

Lots of stuff happened this month but I can't remember all of it :) Can't believe Christmas is actually over. The tree is still up and there are still a few more family members to visit and a few more presents to open and I'm on vacation so it's all good to me!

December was different - not much snow in NH really but WAY TOO MUCH in NY where I spent Christmas. How good of a job did NYC do in cleaning the streets of Queens? Here are two examples:

That top one would be a city bus - abandoned a few blocks from my Dad's house.
The bottom one is my Dad's block - taken out the windshield of my no-wheel drive, 4 inches of ground clearance car. Oh the joy!

You know what is truely joyous though? The number of books I read in December - oh yeah!

01. The 39 Clues Book Three: The Sword Thief by Peter Lerangis
02. The 39 Clues Book Four: Beyond the Grave by Jude Watson
03. The 39 Clues Book Five: The Black Circle by Patrick Carman
04. The 39 Clues Book Six: In Too Deep by Jude Watson
05. The 39 Clues Book Seven: The Viper's Nest by Peter Lerangis
06. The 39 Clues Book Eight: The Emperor's Code by Gordon Korman
07. Entice by Carrie Jones
08. The 39 Clues Book Nine: Storm Warning by Linda Sue Park
09. The 39 Clues Book Ten: Into the Gauntlet by Margaret Peterson Haddix
10. Out fro Blood by Alyxandra Harvey
11. Three Quarters Dead by Richard Peck
12. The Good Neighbors by Holly Black
13. Ghost in the Machine: Skeleton Creek Book 2 by Patrick Carman
14. The Crossbones: Skeleton Creek Book 3 by Patrick Carman
15. Emily the Strange: The Lost Days by Rob Reger
16. Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton
17. Twilight The Graphic Novel Vol 1 by Stephenie Meyer

Woo hoo! I think I did pretty good :)
I've very much looking forward to January and 2011! How about you guys? How was your December?

Monthly Reads - November 2010

Another month come and gone. Another month closer to Christmas time, snow and lovely cold nights spent curled up with a good book and a huge mug of hot cocoa :)

November was swell. I survived the turkey and the black Friday shopping (Sista are you reading this? "Hey America!!").

I also was very lucky in my reading choices as I pretty much loved everything I was able to read in November. One of these days I will actually be able to post reviews in the same month I read the books. Getting better though ;)

Look at the pretty picture! (I worked hard on it so you better be looking!)

Hard copy reads:
Awakened by Ednah Walters
Past Midnight by Mara Purnhagen
The Scorch Trials by James Dashner
39 Clues Book One by Rick Riordan

So, how was your November?

Monthly Reads - September 2010

Hello Halloween Month! It's candy time!
See, eating the Halloween candy before October means you have no self control and eating it in say, December means you have too much self control since it's been sitting around for a couple of months already. SO! I declare that all Halloween candy must be eaten in October! (ok...November too ;)

It's fall in New England and the weather is wonderful (you know, ignoring the hurricane force winds that are blowing around a bit).

September was good. Gone too fast. Was hoping to cram in a few more books but oh well!

Monthly Reads and Challenge Updates - March 2010

Ok, this really isn't funny because April is NOT suppose to be here already! I mean, seriously guys? April? Month 4? I want a redo...what's that called in golf? A mulligan? I'm calling for a mulligan!

Didn't get nearly enough accomplished in March as I hoped. I'm probably being too hard on myself but it's so easy when I look around the house and see massive bookcases full of books, projects (both book related and not) in various degrees of completion and oh, laundry - laundry everywhere!

So yeah, I would like to redo March. I will go back in time, make some type of ill-advised deal with a fairy or daemon or ghost or soul scavenger or whatnot to gain some supper human mass organization skills and then kick March's but! I'll read every book on my TBR list, review every book read, finish challenges, start new ones, comment on every great blog post I read - oh, and bring out world peace!

What? It could happen.

Seriously though - I'm not one for regrets and one of my favorite things about books and blogging is that well, anything goes. I can read any book I want, post reviews whenever (or not) and know that there are other people out there with the same passion as I have for the written word. It's like one big cozy dysfunctional family :)

Ok - enough babble! On with the show!!

Monthly Reads and Challenge Updates - January 2010

I know I say this every month but - WOW! Where did the time go?
January brought tons of snow (although not as much as last year :) Tons of Birthdays (7 family members) and Tons of books! Woo hoo!
This is my first January blogging and I have totally embraced 2010 reading challenges. I did limit myself though because I know I could easily get overwhelmed trying to read challenge books and not have enough time to focus on all the other great books out there!
Also, as not to crowd up my posts with weekly updates on Challenge statuses I'll only be posting updates monthly.

Lastly! I have a big contest in the works. Multiple books, multiple winners with an easy entry form. Stay tuned!

Ok - on with the show!
