Hello and Welcome!

Red House Books is going through a bit of a update!

I've always had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted this space to be but I've been detoured from my path by...lots and lost of other people's opinions and ways of doing things...

I'm committed to this little chunk of the interweb but I've also branched out into other places so! Now it's time to think of Red House Books as more of a hub of all things me! And Me is a hell of a lot of book love!

Stay tuned!

Cover Love: Crystal Fire by Jordan Dane

So, I'm not head over heals for this cover but I do love how it goes so well with he first book.
Indigo Awakening was a great read for me and I can't wait for this one!

If you haven't read any of Jordan Dane's books I suggest you fix that right now!

Crystal Fire (Hunted #2)
Jordan Dane
November 26, 2013 from Harlequin Teen

Because of what you are, the Believers will hunt you down.
A storm is brewing on the streets of LA, one that has intensified since a tragic and deadly confrontation claimed an innocent life.
While Gabriel Stewart trains his army of teen psychics to stop Alexander Reese—the obsessed leader of the Believers—the fanatical church becomes more bent on the annihilation of all Indigo and Crystal children. They're silencing the voices of the telepathic hive, one soul at a time, with frightening experiments cruelly executed on vulnerable minds.
When the Believers torture a mysterious homeless boy, Oliver Blue, they brainwash him into betraying his own. The boy becomes a deadly pawn to take Gabriel down. As the fires of chaos burn around him, Gabe is running out of time. He'll need to confront his past—and the man who made him—before the hope of peace for the future is silenced forever.

Here are the 2 covers side by side -- love the colors!

Ever since she escaped the city within the Wall, Lark Ainsley's wanted one thing: to find her brother Basil. She's always believed he would be the one to put an end to the constant fear and flight. And now, hidden underground in the chaotically magical city of Lethe, Lark feels closer to him than ever.

But Lethe is a city cowering in fear of its founder, the mysterious Prometheus, and of his private police force. To get the truth about what happened to Basil, Lark has no choice but to face Prometheus.

Facing her fears has become second nature to Lark. Facing the truth is another matter.

Lark never asked to be anyone's savior. She certainly never wanted to be anyone's weapon. She might not have a choice. (from Goodreads)

Cover Love: 2012 Debut - Reunited by Hilary Weisman Graham

Reunited by Hilary Weisman Graham
June 12, 2012 from Simon and Schuster

1 Concert
2,000 Miles
3 Ex-Best Friends
Alice, Summer, and Tiernan are ex-best friends.
Back in middle school, the three girls were inseparable. They were also the number one fans of the rock band Level3.
But when the band broke up, so did their friendship. Summer ran with the popular crowd, Tiernan was a rebellious wild-child, and Alice spent high school with her nose buried in books.
Now, just as the girls are about to graduate, Level3 announces a one-time-only reunion show.
Even though the concert’s 2000 miles away, Alice buys three tickets on impulse. And as it turns out, Summer and Tiernan have their own reasons for wanting to get out of town. Good thing Alice’s graduation gift (a pea-green 1976 VW camper van know as the Pea Pod) is just the vehicle to get them there.
But on the long drive cross-country, the girls hit more than a few bumps in the road. Will their friendship get an encore or is the show really over? (from Goodreads)

June is a long way away but Reunited has been on my radar since I met Hilary at BEA this year. She's supper sweet and I'm really excited for her debut!

There's something about the color yellow that really draws my eye. I would definitely impulse buy this one if I saw it on the shelf.

What do you think? Sound like a good one to you? Do you like the cover?

Cover Love: NEW COVER for Skyship Academy: The Pearl Wars by Nick James

Skyship Academy: The Pearl Wars by Nick James
September 8, 2011 from Flux

A devastated Earth’s last hope is found in Pearls: small, mysterious orbs that fall from space, and are capable of supplying enough energy to power entire cities. Battling to control the Pearls are the Skyship dwellers—political dissidents who live in massive ships in the Earth’s stratosphere—and the corrupt Surface government.
Jesse Fisher, a Skyship brat, and Cassius Stevenson, a young Surface operative, cross paths when they both venture into forbidden territory in pursuit of Pearls. Their chance encounter triggers an unexpected reaction, endowing each boy with remarkable—and dangerous—abilities that their respective governments would stop at nothing to possess. Enemies thrust together with a common goal, Jesse and Cassius make their way to the ruins of Seattle to uncover the truth about their new powers, the past they didn’t know they shared, and a shocking secret about the Pearls. (from Goodreads)

To compare, here is the old cover:
I'm a fan of the new one - definitely one I would pick up off the shelf for a closer look.

Cover Love

Just found this one!

Edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling
April 2011 from HarperCollins

Not sure if this is YA but it has stories written by Neil Gaiman, Melissa Marr, Cassandra Clare, Holly Black and a bunch of others!

From Goodreads:
Sink your teeth into these bite-sized tales exploring the intersections among the living, dead, and undead. The vampires in these stories range from romantic to chilling to gleeful—and touch on nearly every emotion in between. The one thing they have in common? Their desire for blood....

looks yummy!

Cover Love

I was in Borders tonight and I saw this:

Once a Witch by Carolyn MacCullough is now out in paperback and I absolutly love this cover!

Tamsin Greene comes from a long line of witches, and she was supposed to be one of the most Talented among them. But Tamsin's magic never showed up. Now seventeen, Tamsin attends boarding school in Manhattan, far from her family. But when a handsome young professor mistakes her for her very Talented sister, Tamsin agrees to find a lost family heirloom for him. The search—and the stranger—will prove to be more sinister than they first appeared, ultimately sending Tamsin on a treasure hunt through time that will unlock the secret of her true identity, unearth the sins of her family, and unleash a power so vengeful that it could destroy them all. This is a spellbinding display of storytelling that will exhilarate, enthrall, and thoroughly enchant. (from Goodreads)

This book will always hold a special place in my heart as it was the very first ARC I ever received! I love the story and I can't wait for Book 2.

Cover Love - The Dead-Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan

One of my most anticipated 2010 books is Carrie Ryan's The Dead-Tossed Waves, the sequel to The Forest of Hands and Teeth - which I loved!

I've seen a few covers floating around and wanted to know what you guys think. Random House shows this one for the hardcover:

I like it ok but it's not my favorite. There is just something I'm not quite jiving with...

Then there is this cover which Random House has as the "Unabridged Audiobook Download"

I like this one better. It's more inline with the hardcover image from The Forest of Hands and Teeth.

And then there is this one:

I have no idea where this one came form. It was the first one I saw and as of today the only place I have found it is on LibraryThing. This one is my favorite. Not sure why but I really like the simplicity of it.

The Dead-Tossed Waves will be released in March 2010 and I cannot wait!
So, which cover do you guys like best?
