Hello and Welcome!

Red House Books is going through a bit of a update!

I've always had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted this space to be but I've been detoured from my path by...lots and lost of other people's opinions and ways of doing things...

I'm committed to this little chunk of the interweb but I've also branched out into other places so! Now it's time to think of Red House Books as more of a hub of all things me! And Me is a hell of a lot of book love!

Stay tuned!

Cover Reveal: The Summer I Became A Nerd by Leah Rae Miller

May 7, 2013 from Entangled Teen

On the outside, seventeen-year-old Madelyne Summers looks like your typical blond cheerleader—perky, popular, and dating the star quarterback. But inside, Maddie spends more time agonizing over what will happen in the next issue of her favorite comic book than planning pep rallies with her squad. That she’s a nerd hiding in a popular girl's body isn’t just unknown, it's anti-known. And she needs to keep it that way.

Summer is the only time Maddie lets her real self out to play, but when she slips up and the adorkable guy behind the local comic shop’s counter uncovers her secret, she’s busted. Before she can shake a pom-pom, Maddie’s whisked into Logan’s world of comic conventions, live-action role-playing, and first-person-shooter video games. And she loves it. But the more she denies who she really is, the deeper her lies become…and the more she risks losing Logan forever.

As a nerd that has never been afraid to shout my nerdiness from the rooftops I'm curious as to how Madelyne's story will play out.

What do you guys think?

As a bonus, Entangled is hosting a marked-to-read contest on Goodreads in April and May. Keep an eye on Leah's site for details on how to enter to win!

Cover Reveal: Stalked by Death (Touch of Death #2) by Kelly Hashway

Book 2 in Kelly's Touch of Death series is due out in July 2013 from
Spencer Hill Press.

That might seem a bit far away but it's never too soon to get excited over a book in my opinion :)

Jodi knows that any slip-ups made by the Ophi--a special group of necromancers born under the 13th sign of the zodiac--will fall on her shoulders... and that Hades is just waiting for them to screw up so he can wipe out the Ophi line.

When the only Ophi Jodi can convince to come to the school and train with her is a gorgeous guy named Chase, it spells more than trouble for Jodi and Alex. Her mixed emotions for both guys send her powers surging out of control, and she begins raising the dead without even meaning to. Jodi doesn't want to lose Alex, but Chase is offering her something Alex can't. His very touch enhances her powers, making her stronger than any Ophi ever has been--maybe even powerful enough to stop Hades from threatening them all. But Chase's offering comes with a huge price. One that may cost Jodi everything she has.

Jodi needs to figure things out fast--because death is stalking her at every turn.

The first book of the series, Touch of Death will be released in January 2013 and the launch party will be a ZOMBIE PROM in Boston! How awesome is that!?

I love the cover of the first book in this trilogy, Elemental so I'm thrilled to be able to show you the cover for book 2!
It's a long way out but it's never too soon to get excited :)

Fae by Emily White
December 10, 2013 from Spencer Hill Press
Cover Design by Vic Caswell of Sketcher Girl

Not all fae'ri tales come with a happy ending.
Ella thought taking care of the ego-bloated Mamood god would be a sure way to bring peace to the galaxy and satisfy her taste for revenge.
     But she was wrong.
Despite the fact their god is gone, the Mamood refuse to abandon their attack on the planet Soltak and Ella's own so-called friends start to turn against her. And with Soltak dying--its oceans drying up and its plants withering in the ground--Ella and Cailen suspect there's a new enemy at work. As more people die and more water is leached from the planet, they both prepare for something straight from a nightmare.
     The fae are coming.

It releases in September from Sourcebooks Fire and I can't wait.

If you're impatient like me you can read the first two chapters now! Head over to Sourcebooks BEA page and click on the cover.

Still not enough? How about a special vlog Jessica made about her favorite reading space? Love the accent!

And! Be sure to keep your eye on www.embracetheseries.com for details about Jessica's two-week book tour in September.

What do you guys think of the cover?

I'm not sure I love it but I'm definitely excited for the book.

Embrace was a fantastic read for me (check out my review) and I do love the insight Sourcebooks Fire editor Leah Hultenschmidt shared - "For Entice, we really wanted to have the cover reflect the darker edge of the story and Violet's toughness" -- I can very much see that!

Cover Reveal: My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century by Rachel Harris

I'm so happy to be a part of the cover reveal for Rachel Harris's debut!
My Supper Sweet Sixteenth Century releases in September from Entangled Publishing

On the precipice of her sixteenth birthday, the last thing lone wolf Cat Crawford wants is an extravagant gala thrown by her bubbly stepmother and well-meaning father. So even though Cat knows the family’s trip to Florence, Italy, is a peace offering, she embraces the magical city and all it offers. But when her curiosity leads her to an unusual gypsy tent, she exits . . . right into Renaissance Firenze.
Thrust into the sixteenth century armed with only a backpack full of contraband future items, Cat joins up with her ancestors, the sweet Alessandra and protective Cipriano, and soon falls for the gorgeous aspiring artist Lorenzo. But when the much-older Niccolo starts sniffing around, Cat realizes that an unwanted birthday party is nothing compared to an unwanted suitor full of creeptastic amore.
Can she find her way back to modern times before her Italian adventure turns into an Italian forever? (from Goodreads)

And, as a special bonus, I have an excerpt to share:
I hear their muffled whispers and understand every Italian word. Every witty comment made at my expense.

It’s like my brain is automatically translating.

I bunch the soft fabric of the dress in my hand and then reach up to feel the ribbon in my hair. I lightly skim my fingers over my chin and feel my lack of zit. I take in the costumes of the crowd, the stench of the animals, and the Italian I can now speak and understand. And suddenly it hits me.

Reyna must have pulled some kind of gypsy mojo.

Maybe this is one of those nifty “change your life” magic scenarios like in the movies. I mean, mostly I’m still expecting to blink and be right back in the midst of overpriced, gaudy tourism, but for now, the gypsy-time-warp explanation is infinitely better than thinking I’ve lost my mind. As I decide to go with that option, I feel my frantic tension melt away.

The growing crowd seems to notice my change in demeanor and begins shooting one another amused looks, but I don’t care anymore. A smile stretches across my face. Evidently, I was wrong earlier; Reyna is a psychic mind reader, because if this is her special brand of bibbity-bobbity-boo, then she made my exact daydream from earlier in the courtyard come to life.

The long red gown, the braided hair, the Italian merchant’s daughter, the time period. I am in Renaissance Florence.

I stare dumbly at the ground, the words and reality sinking in.

     I’m in Renaissance Florence!
