Hello and Welcome!

Red House Books is going through a bit of a update!

I've always had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted this space to be but I've been detoured from my path by...lots and lost of other people's opinions and ways of doing things...

I'm committed to this little chunk of the interweb but I've also branched out into other places so! Now it's time to think of Red House Books as more of a hub of all things me! And Me is a hell of a lot of book love!

Stay tuned!

The Humming Room blog tour with Ellen Potter + A Giveaway :)

A big welcome to
Ellen Potter
whose latest book,
The Humming Room
released in February
from  Macmillian / Feiwel and Friends

Hiding is Roo Fanshaw's special skill. Living in a frighteningly unstable family, she often needs to disappear at a moment's notice. When her parents are murdered, it's her special hiding place under the trailer that saves her life.
As it turns out, Roo, much to her surprise, has a wealthy if eccentric uncle, who has agreed to take her into his home on Cough Rock Island. Once a tuberculosis sanitarium for children of the rich, the strange house is teeming with ghost stories and secrets. Roo doesn't believe in ghosts or fairy stories, but what are those eerie noises she keeps hearing? And who is that strange wild boy who lives on the river? People are lying to her, and Roo becomes determined to find the truth.
Despite the best efforts of her uncle's assistants, Roo discovers the house's hidden room--a garden with a tragic secret.
Inspired by The Secret Garden, this tale full of unusual characters and mysterious secrets is a story that only Ellen Potter could write. (from Goodreads)

Ellen Potter is the author of books including The Kneebone Boy, Slob, Pish Posh, and Olivia Kidney. With Anne Mazer she is also the author of Spilling Ink: A Young Writer’s Handbook. Potter grew up in a high-rise apartment building in New York City’s Upper West Side, where she exercised her early creativity by making up stories about the neighbors she saw on the elevator. When she was 11 years old, she realized all the best books were written for people her age, and so she decided to become a children’s book author. She studied creative writing at Binghamton University, and then worked many different jobs while continuing to write. She was a dog groomer, construction worker, art teacher, and waitress. She lives in upstate New York with her husband, son and a motley assortment of badly behaved animals. (from publisher website)

Today Ellen is here to share her thoughts on Books and Memories...

What book makes you think of...your childhood?
From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, because I was a New York City kid who also used to wonder what it would be like to live in the Met for a week.

What book makes you think of......your happiest memory?
Reading The BFG, by Roald Dahl, while sitting in a rocking chair and eating Bar-b-que flavored Doritos.

What book makes you think of...your scariest memory?
Reading my first published book and seeing all the things I wished I had done differently.

What book makes you think of...your road to publication?
Any book that is too long, with plenty of dead ends but a decent conclusion.

What book makes you think of...high school?
Hamlet, because I had a big crush him when I was sixteen. How geeky is that?

Thank you so much for sharing Ellen!
